Turkish Delight from Narnia - What is it?

In honor of the "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" movie, I thought I would write about Turkish Delight….

I've just read the first book of the "Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis and I can say it's really a magic story. Recently I've decided to get "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" audiobook. I love that story. It brings back such vivid memories of my innocent  childhood. Well, as I was listening to the audiobook I wondered about the candy that the White Witch gave to Edmund to convince him to be on her side. I always just assumed it was a made-up candy like most things in Narnia. It turns out Turkish Delight is a real candy and there are many recipes for it online.

Here is one of these recipes:

1 1⁄2 cups icing sugar, sifted
2⁄3 cup cornflour
1⁄4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1⁄2 teaspoon rose water
Few drops pink food colouring 3⁄4 cup icing sugar, sifted

Method
1. Combine water, sugar and gelatine in a large microwave safe dish.
2. Microwave on high for 7 minutes. Stir well cook for a further 7 minutes. 3. Combine icing sugar, cornflour and cream of tartar.
4. Stir into sugar syrup.
5. Microwave on high power for another 6 minutes.
